It is with tremendous sadness to report that Franz Vonlichten has passed away, as written by Helmut on the Facebook page.
While I never had the chance to communicate with Franz, the Vonlichtens helped me find my musical identity and to have one of them fade away is an incomprehensible loss. I spent many years finding styles of music that I could relate to and be excited about. When I first listened to Unearthed several years ago, these guys established something unique and I liked it. As time progressed, I realised that they created the foundations of my interests in modern orchestral music.
After much delay, I created this website as a thank you to the brothers for making great music that ignited the imagination, passion and drive to make listeners do things. I’m sure there are many instances where fans have been inspired to pursue goals by listening to the music or wrecking everything in sight while doing a crazy dance. It’s feel good music that gets you through the day and gives you the power to do anything you want.
Music is one of the wonders of life, especially music of this calibre. Stick with it and cherish it. It will do you well.
To Helmut, my thoughts go out to you and I hope that you resurface in the future with some new tunes.
I’ll always be thinking about Franz.
